Revamped Checkpoint Masks Troubled Ties between Shenzhen and Hong Kong The newly revamped Huanggang Port, situated on the border of Shenzhen's Futian district and Hong Kong, boasts a design inspired by the shared geological history of both cities.
The rounded, symmetrical structure resembles a giant pale brown cornerstone, meant to emphasize commonalities between Hong Kong and Shenzhen – their joint technological endeavors, as well as their shared natural heritage.
However, this architectural gesture cannot hide the underlying complexities of the relationship between these two Special Administrative Regions.
