Amidst the euphoria of Macron's historic trip – he is the first western leader to set foot in Damascus since Ahmad al Sharaa took office in 2024 – a grim reality emerged: that even as Syria attempts to rebuild and strengthen international ties, its cities remain vulnerable to violence.
